Rajnath Singh in Srinagar, Meets Mehbooba Mufti Over Kashmir Issue

Srinagar, Sept 9: Home Minister Rajnath Singh embarked on a 4-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday in an attempt to find a resolution to the Kashmir problem. The minister will spend two days in the valley and two in the Jammu region. Rajnath Singh first met the chief minister in the Nehru Guest House to discuss the latest law and order situation in the state.

Notably, he will also meet Governor NN Vohra, apart from a cross-section of people including traders and students. The home minister will also address the state police personnel at the district police lines in Anantnag and troopers of the Central Reserve Police Force in Khanabal.

“I am going with an open mind and I am willing to meet all those who come to meet me. We want a resolution to the problems,” Singh told reporters on the sidelines of a function here on Friday.

According to sources, the minister will review the progress of implementation of the prime minister’s development package for the state.

The governor will host a dinner for Rajnath Singh at the Raj Bhawan in Srinagar.

Singh will address the media in Srinagar on Monday before leaving for Jammu where he is expected to interact with border residents in Nowshera sector of Rajouri district where the residents of border villages are often forced to migrate to safer places leaving their livestock, belongings and crops unattended due to indiscriminate shelling and firing by Pakistan.

The home minister will also address the Border Security Force troopers during his Jammu visit.

Earlier in the day, an encounter broke out between the terrorists and the security forces in which one militant was neutralised. In another incident, Pakistan violated ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) in Krishna Ghati sector and Shahpur sector of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir.
