Chandigarh Stalking Case: District Court Frames Abduction Charges Against Vikas Barala

Chandigarh, Oct 13: The Chandigarh District Court on Friday framed the charges of abduction against Vikas Barala, the son of Haryana BJP President Subhash Barala, and his friend Ashish Kumar. The duo was booked for stalking and kidnapping Varnika Kundu, a Chandigarh-based disc jockey.

On Monday, the court had fixed October 11 as the date of the commencement of arguments on framing of charges in the stalking case involving Vikas Barala.

The two men were arrested on the intervening night of August 4 and 5 following Kundu’s complaint but were released on bail as they had been booked under bailable sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Motor Vehicles Act.

The two were arrested again on August 9 after they joined the investigation and were charged with attempted abduction under sections 365 and 511 of the IPC. Notably, the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rajnish Kumar Sharma had dismissed the bail plea of Vikas Barala last month.

Varnika Kundu (29), the daughter of a senior IAS officer, had complained to police that the two accused, Vikas Barala (23) and his friend Ashish Kumar (27) of stalking her. She also stated in her complaint that the duo was drunk and intimidated her and tried to abduct her on August 4-5 night.
